August 31st, 2012Still Life Moving Fragments consists of two series of moving images works that explore the notion of still life within contemporary screen practice. Playing with the tension between stillness and movement, the works make use of the quiet intensity of still life and the fleeting, unstable properties of the moving image, exposing the overlooked yet enigmatic undercurrent of domestic interiors.
Drawing upon George Perec’s concept of the ‘infra-ordinary’, the works echo his question: ‘how should we take account of, question, describe what happens every day and recurs everyday: the banal, the quotidian, the obvious, the common, the ordinary, the infra-ordinary, the background noise, the habitual.’
The exhibition is on at the Tin Sheds Gallery, 154 City Road, Chippendale. It runs until Saturday, September 8th.
