Autumnal equinox: Beetles wall up their burrows (2 of 5)

March 28th, 2009

Autumnal equinox 7 of 15We look out the kitchen window and notice that the hakea in the frontyard has stopped flowering abruptly. A few branches are turning yellow and dying. The diagnosis is some form of fungal infection possibly caused by the overcrowding ferns at its base. The prognosis requires some immediate and drastic action. It’s time to give the prolific plants a trim.

Possibly to the delight our local postie, we boldly cut back the bushes at the very front and rediscover our mailbox. Redmond gave the front path a thorough weeding and I took the opportunity to re-build the front steps.
