Frost descent: Wolf sacrafices beasts (4 of 5)

April 24th, 2009

Frost descent 4 of 15The first shipment of the Digger’s seeds for Autumn planting have arrived, yet we still have not constructed the vegetable planting beds. There has been a lot of discussions regarding the best positions for the beds, their shapes, their dimensions and their construction methods, but no decision has been reached, or more accurately, no action has been undertaken.

Today, Farmer Red started terracing the garden with the intention of converting the sloping lawn into long thin vegetable patches. He started making a long trench by digging up the lawn and removing some of the top soil. As he laboured, the chickens wandered around the garden, looking for juicy lawn grubs and worms.

Soon it was reaveled that much of the slop is build out of rubble whose function is probably to stablise the originally slopey ground on which the house is constructed. What will Farmer Red do next?

i’m on the edge of my seat!

i imagine he might use wood to construct terraces coming out from the slope, rather than etching into the rugged slope. he will then fill these out-jutting terraces with good soil delivered in a trailer…

I look forward to more adventures of Farmer Red. semi circular vegie patches cascading down the slope would have been beautiful but also a house that stands straight…
