Autumnal equinox: Thunder pipes down (2 of 5)

March 23rd, 2009

Autumnal equinox 2 of 15Despite the passion hoppers, the passionfruit vines (Passiflora edulis flavicarpa) continue to flower prolifically but alas bears no fruit.

There are over 500 species of Passiflora worldwide. Some varieties are self-pollinating (like Passiflora edulis) whilst others are self-sterile and require pollinators (like Passiflora edulis flavicarpa). Such an elaborate flower structure enlist an equally usual group of helpers which include carpentar bees, bats, wasps, and hummingbirds. I decided to join the list of pollinators and gave the flowers a helping hand.
