March 15th, 2009With the encouragement from moving the sleepers and crates to the backyard on Friday, we started the morning with a flurry of activities in the garden. I tilled the vegie patch while the chickens looked on. Then I mixed in some blood n’ bone and aged cow manure into the soil to get rich loomy mix. I leveled the little patch and planted one row of spinach, one row of ‘wasabi’ mustard greens, and a small square of rockets. The idea is to plant an additonal row each week to enusre a continual supply of greens. I marked out the planted areas with sticks. Meanwhile, Redmond moved some soil into one of the crates, shovelled some mulch around and mowed the lawn. Afterwards, we rewarded ourselves with pancakes with bananas and blue berries topped with fresh cream and maple syrup. All in a morning’s work.
