When I came home from work I went down to the garden to say hello to the chickens. I noticed one of them was sitting down. This was usual, I thought. They ususally do everything together: if one sits, the other two would also sit. I watched them for a bit longer and all is not well. The little black chicken could not get up. I thought she had somehow hurt her leg.
Redmond took her out of the chicken house and set up a separate infirmary (using Puzpuz’s old cat box). The poor little chicken seems very docile, but is still eating. There is nothing wrong with her leg but she is sneezing. As with most animals, the illness could be all manner of things. We just have to wait and see whether she recovers.

Oh I hope the chook’s Ok. Sounds like she may have a cold. Are there any remedies you can administer??

Unfortunately, she didn’t make it (see March 12 post). It’s a bit sad for the other two – they made such a handsome trio. But that’s the nature of having animals, you know. Have you thought about getting a pet for Zac? May be he will pester you you when he gets a little older. It’s funny how little kids just LOVE animals!
