White dew: wild geese come (3 of 5)

March 9th, 2009

White dew 3 of 15The Seasonal Almanac has now overlapped with the Autumn Almanac of Tokyo for about 8 days. Looking at Tokyo’s early Autumn entries, it seems like the experiences of the season in these two places cannot be more different but at the same time there are also many parallels.

For a while now, we have noticed that we haven’t seen the Australian King Parrots (Alisterus scapularis). It is said that they are largely sedentary but perhaps they have just moved elsewhere along the coast for some more plentiful harvests. In their absence, the Crimson Rosellas (Platycercus elegans) have become much bolder. A single pair usually visits the front of the house twice a day: once in the morning and once in the afternoon.
