February 4th, 2009University of Wollongong has a number of strategically placed ponds and water features that are designed to enhance the bush environment of its campus. An artificial stream runs from outside Wollongong College and the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre eastwards pass the McKinnon building and terminates as a shallow pond outside the north wing of the Arts building. The campus’s bush setting attracts much bird life. In addition to some rather large ducks, white-face herrons are often seen around the ponds. Quite unperturbed by large groups of over-excited year 12 students on campus for ‘Discovery days’, this herron was keen to discover a meal or two in the green pond.
