While earth’s essence sinks, I notice flourishes of mushrooms growing in the newly amasssed fallen leave litter and rotting mulch. Walking from the carpark this morning, I encountered stands of this orangey yellow species. I did have the intention to go back and collect a sample for identification but alas was too rushed to remember my task.

From mere photo-identification, it appears that this could be a common edible species: yellow chanterelle (Cantharellus cibarius). This type of chanterlle is apparently difficult to cultivate so wild ones are probably sought after. Without samples for closer examination however, this can only be a conjecture. Nevertheless, this may point to future mushrooming opportunites on university grounds.
