September 14th, 2008Today (or tonight) is moon-viewing day (this is celebrated in China and Hong Kong as the mid-Autumn festival). (Tomorrow is a public holiday here in Japan, but it’s ‘Respect for the Aged day’, not for the moon-viewing as I thought.) There had been some festivities on the streets in Shibuya and I came across one store in Ushigome Yanagichi that had a small display with rice dumplings and suzuki grass. Otherwise there doesn’t seem to be much public moon-viewing going on… Although I came across a family lighting sparkers in their little front entrance. It seemed a small but nevertheless rather festive celebration.
