A work-in-progress by Jo Law and Redmond Bridgeman, this video work takes the form of a primer. Responding to Hollis Frampton’s 1970, Zorn's Lemma, Natural history primer plays with the modern roman alphabet and the age-old attempt to categorise nature.
The work uses a variety of media including super-8, digital video (both interlaced and progressive scan images) and photographic stills. The super-8 film footage is used consciously to accentuate filmic quality in contrast with the two video textures.
Graphic inter-titles, in the form of illustration and animation add a further dimension to the piece by generating rhythm and building audience anticipation.
